Yes, I am making my prediction already! Am I crazy? Probably. But in all seriousness, I KNOW that these destinations are going to be the places to visit in 2017. Here’s the greatest countries you have to visit in 2017.
- Papua New Guinea
A country that many people have overlooked for all these years is now becoming slowly popular, even cruise ships have started putting this destination in their itineraries. Papua New Guinea has one of the most diverse cultures in the world; there are over 700 native languages! There’s virtually no tourism infrastructure here, which means that, for an eager adventurer, it’s a fascinating place waiting to be explored. The landscape here is mountainous, and there are more species of birds and frogs than there is in Australia – even though it’s less than a quarter of its size! Its untouched reefs, active volcanoes, and jungle-like territory will have you dreaming of this one-of-a-kind travel destination. Don’t miss one of the most popular festivals called the Mask Festival, which happens in July. Expect traditional dancing, rituals and storytelling!
Iran has an abundance of history waiting for travellers to come and see. The country has an astonishing 19 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Iran may surprise you as it has a dark past, which is hard to forget and discourages many travellers from going to this wonderful country. It’s colourful, the people are friendly, and there are some beautiful places waiting to be discovered. From vibrant mosques to sandy deserts, mountain ranges, and busy bazaars, you will be glad you decided to experience this place for yourself.
Jordan has a unique ancient past, which makes it alluring, calling people from all over the world to visit. Expect to see desert landscapes, world wonders, and to meet hospitable locals. Everywhere you look you will be rewarded with marvellous ruins that will take you back in time. Jordan is home to 5 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Don’t forget that this country is also home to the Dead Sea. At 400m below sea level, Jordan’s crystal blue water is the lowest point on earth.
- The Maldives
The Maldives have had a deceptive reputation that it’s only for cash-happy, loved-up couples, but many solo travel bloggers have tested that theory in recent months – and disproved it! This magical paradise is for everyone to enjoy but be careful as you may never want to leave, EVER! If you’re coming from London, don’t book a ticket straight to the Maldives. Make sure you book a ticket to the likes of Sri Lanka or Dubai before heading to the Maldives to keep your costs down.
- Scotland, UK
I know, I know, Scotland isn’t an independent country but I couldn’t leave it out on this list of top places to visit in 2017. Scotland has slowly been creeping up in my news feed every day. People perceive Scotland to be grey and rainy all the time (okay, most of the time it actually might be), but during the spring and summer months this place becomes a road-tripping haven. If you pick the right weeks, you will be granted fantastic weather and see some of the most beautiful and secluded little villages and beaches in the UK. Scotland even has white-sand beaches to offer and although the Scottish water’s temperature may not be the same as its Grecian or Caribbean counterparts, it’s still a magnificent place to visit. Make sure you do the North Coast 500 which is the 500-mile coastal road. It’s even been named one of the top coastal roads in the world!
- Bosnia and Herzegovina
This beautiful destination has been through some gruelling history, which ended not so long ago. Bosnia and Herzegovina boasts effortless landscapes, cute little villages, and a simplicity that makes you appreciate the little things. This historical place will make you feel like you have stepped back in time, and it will never leave you feeling bored as there’s so much to see and learn, it will make you feel like you have stepped back in time. Life is a little slower here, and for a good reason. People are enjoying every day, and they are thankful for the life they have been given.
After reading Veronika’s post on ‘10 reasons to visit Taiwan’, I knew Taiwan had to be added to this list simply because it looks amazing! From the lush mountain ranges to the white-sand beaches and endless culture, it’s a feast for the traveller’s eyes. The Taiwanese food, friendly locals, and magnificent views will make this place the next Asian country to visit in 2017. If you love hiking then this will be your paradise, and the great thing about it is that Taiwanese people love hot springs – so you’ll have a good excuse to relax in one after hiking up the mountains!
I would love to know if you plan on visiting any of these destinations in 2017. Let me know below if you have any other destinations that I should add to the list! If you need accommodation in any of these countries then I highly recommend checking out Agoda or Hotels.com, they offer the best value accommodation around the world.
