Travelling around by bus in Albania can be a little tricky. If you are used to rigid timetables and perfectly planned bus rides, then travelling through Albania may give you a reality check.

The truth is that Albania bus timetables are a little bit of a pain in the arse but once you understand how they work, it’s easy!

I myself have gathered (and from other travellers around Albania) a list of routes with the time that they are (supposed) to leave the destination.

If you plan on using the buses in Albania, hopefully, this can give you a better idea on how to plan your holiday around Albania.

Whether you want a bus from Tirana to Saranda, a bus from Gjirokaster to Saranda or anywhere in between, I’ve got you covered.

Albania Bus Timetables for Popular Routes, harbour with bright turquoise water with white sandy beach and covered seating areas lining the coast as well as green trees and rolling hills leading into the distance

Albanian bus timetables can change with a flick of the wrist so always double-check the night before that this is the correct time.

The best way to confirm that is to get your ticket the night before or simply ask a local or your accommodation supplier to confirm it for you.

People in Albania are really friendly and are always there to help you if need be!

*If you know of any timetables for buses in Albania that have changed please let me know by commenting below. I want to keep this guide as up to date as possible.

All times listed below for an Albania bus schedule were researched by me visiting the bus station as well as other travellers who have travelled through Albania in 2023.

📚 P.S. Grab access to my Travelling Albania Guide to get a comprehensive insight into more places to visit in Albania (including secret spots that are not recommended in the usual guides!)

IMPORTANT: Use this as a guide for Albania buses, but always double-check the day before you plan to leave by going to the bus station and getting your ticket and/or asking your accommodation supplier.

Hi Anita and thanks for all the useful info on your site! I am in Saranda at the moment and asked at Tourist Info on the seafront promenade today about buses to Vlora. Apart from the 11:30 and 14:30 you mention, they also told me there was one at 5:30 in the morning. Not that we’ll be catching that 😀

Hello Anita, thanks a lot for all the data you compiled, it really helps a lot.
I do have some questions though:
    1. Are all the time table work in winter? I’ll be there in early January 2020.
    2. Can I buy the tickets last minute, since sometimes I won’t even stay in the city at all (I come in the morning & move on to the next city in the afternoon)?
    3. I can’t find any information about public transport from Ohrid to Sarande. They offered to take me for €90 by car. What do you think?
    Thanks a lot.

    April 9, 2021

Thank you for this! Update as of April 2021: there is NO bus that goes directly from Gjirokaster to Berat. You can go to the bus station in Gjirokaster and tell them you want to go to Berat, and you know that you have to go through Fier (a nearby city). As I’m writing this, the bus from Gjirokaster to Fier leaves at 10am — get there early to get a seat ;).

Remind the driver’s assistant when you get on the bus that you’re going to Berat, and watch the map after a couple of hours. In my experience I guess they forgot (I didn’t remind them) and they dropped me farther north than Fier once I alerted the driver — but then directed me to a bus station just across an intersection to go to Berat.

Hope this helps! Again, NO single direct bus right now Gjirokaster —> Berat.

Hi there, does anybody know where the bus from Gjirokaster to Vlore departs from exactly? I asked a few locals but they weren’t helpful. I then waited for the 8:30 bus at the main bus station this morning, but it drove past and never stopped. Most confusing bus transport system I have ever experienced . . .

Buses from Vlora to Sarande: there are 2 buses a day as far as I know…at 6:45 am, and at 11:30 am. It costs 800 lek (or alternatively Borsh 500 lek). The bus station in Vlora is next to the Independence monument..good luck!;)

Faleminderit!…..Just want to add that I took the 22:00 bus from Tirana to Sarandë the other night. With Tisa Travel. Apparently they started it up again a couple weeks ago, and we can hope they continue to mud-August. (But always call and never expect anything here in Adventureland, of course:) Cheers.

Thanks for this brilliant resource! I’m in Gjirokaster at the moment and the lady at my hostel says the 10:30AM direct to Berat isn’t running at the moment – it’s still listed on the sign but they’ve had lots of guests try to take it and it’s never arrived. Thank you for the bus time table.
Someone suggest a route, by seems hard by bus.
    Tirana – Berat (1 night) – Himare (2 N) – Gjirokaster (1 N) – Tirana.
    Is it possible?
Another way, Tirana-Berat-Gjirokaster-Himare-Corfu. Is there ferry to Corfu during December? and how is the ticket price?
    Many thanks.

How ironic…the two bus schedules I hoped for are nada. From sarande to Vlore (which I already found out because I’m here in Vlore – Straight road to Vlore departs at 7:00 a.m. Windy coastal route departs at 11:30 a.m. Only two times in winter.) But what about getting from Vlore to Tirana? I imagine same/same as the Tirana to Vlore schedule, every half hour. You just have to hop to get a decent bus. Always the challenge in Albania.

Hi 🙂 , first of all thank you for all the information about Albania! In September my boyfriend and me also want to travel to Albania. Actually we look for bus connections from Tirana to Kukes because we will fly home from Kukes. Do you know something about it?
Thank you in advance and all the best,
    Linda 🙂

Most buses from Saranda leave next to the ruins. There are two blocks with buses and furgons.

Ksamil and Butrint leaves from the intersection by Luna Park.

    Multitudinous thanks.
I’m planning a trip to Albania in the fall and was somewhat perplexed about how to get around.
While I’ve not yet used your information in a real life scenario, I certainly applaud the massive amount of work you have put into compiling this data.
    Again, thanks!

Hi, I am Kai Jiang from China. I planned to go to Athens from Saranta after finishing my trip to Albania in October. Is there a bus from Saranta to Athens? I saw one on this page but cannot verify on other pages. If there isn’t, do I need to go back to Tirana or Gjirokastra?

    Thank you very much.

Hi, I’m planning to go from Himara to Lukove tomorrow, and was told there was a bus leaving at 7:15 from Himara…is there a way to check? I’d much rather catch the bus at 8:30 (as your schedule listed) than at 7:15.

Hello! Just took at the end of September 2022 the bus Himare to Saranda at 11am and the Himare to Tirana bus was already parked waiting to leave too. Also took the Himare to Vlore (I stopped at Gjipe beach) at 1pm. The driver said that he was coming back at Gjipe beach entrance at 4pm but I hitchhiked back to town.

Hi everyone, here an update (end of September 2022) of prices for buses between different destinations.
Please keep in mind that these are mini vans that do not always respect their time tables, if they get full before their departure time they will just leave, so it is recommended to be there at least 30 min before the departure time.

Here the buses we took :
Tirana – Gjirokaster 1200 lek p/p. Tried to take the one at 18:30, ended up leaving at 19:45 with the one for 20:30.
    Gjirokaster – Saranda 400 lek p/p at 09:00
    Saranda – Ksamil 150 lek p/p at 10:30
Saranda – Himarë 700 p/p at 10:30, the one at 09:00 was just cancelled.
    Himarë – Tirana 1300 p/p at 07:30
Tirana – Kukës 600 p/p, supposedly to be one every hour but we got there at 09:15 and the next was programmed to leave at 13:00, we ended up taking another mini van that was going to Kosovo.

Hope this is helpful for other travellers 🙂

Hello, there is not a direct bus from Durres to Vlore anymore.
To get to Vlore from Durres:
From the Plepa bus station, take the Lushnje Bus or any bus to Berat and let the bus driver know you are going to Vlore. They will drop you off at Lushnje and you will need to wait at the roundabout for the bus going to Vlore.

Hi, thank you so much for your guide. I took the bus from Tirana to Saranda and the trip was quicker than expected: it took 4:30h / 4:40h. (apparently the just opened a the new road) It may be important to know if like me you dont have an internet connection when you land in Albania.
    Cheers!

Are there toilets on board ?🙈

Hello Anita. Thank you for very helpful information.
Going to Himare on the 21 st August (the plane lands off at 12 am at Tirana airport), what would be the best solution ? Taking a bus to Vlore at 1.30 pm and then from Vlore to Himare I could not find a bus leaving around 5 pm. Is it correct? Thank you and kind regards. Marie-Hélène

Gjirokaster a Berat actualmente parte todos los días a las 8:30 de la mañana, enfrente de la gasolinera donde te deja al llegar. Saludos! Damián
