Travelling around by bus in Albania can be a little tricky. If you are used to rigid timetables and perfectly planned bus rides, then travelling through Albania may give you a reality check.
The truth is that Albania bus timetables are a little bit of a pain in the arse but once you understand how they work, it’s easy!
I myself have gathered (and from other travellers around Albania) a list of routes with the time that they are (supposed) to leave the destination.
If you plan on using the buses in Albania, hopefully, this can give you a better idea on how to plan your holiday around Albania.
Whether you want a bus from Tirana to Saranda, a bus from Gjirokaster to Saranda or anywhere in between, I’ve got you covered.

Albanian bus timetables can change with a flick of the wrist so always double-check the night before that this is the correct time.
The best way to confirm that is to get your ticket the night before or simply ask a local or your accommodation supplier to confirm it for you.
People in Albania are really friendly and are always there to help you if need be!
*If you know of any timetables for buses in Albania that have changed please let me know by commenting below. I want to keep this guide as up to date as possible.
All times listed below for an Albania bus schedule were researched by me visiting the bus station as well as other travellers who have travelled through Albania in 2023.
📚 P.S. Grab access to my Travelling Albania Guide to get a comprehensive insight into more places to visit in Albania (including secret spots that are not recommended in the usual guides!)
IMPORTANT: Use this as a guide for Albania buses, but always double-check the day before you plan to leave by going to the bus station and getting your ticket and/or asking your accommodation supplier.

Hi Anita and thanks for all the useful info on your site! I am in Saranda at the moment and asked at Tourist Info on the seafront promenade today about buses to Vlora. Apart from the 11:30 and 14:30 you mention, they also told me there was one at 5:30 in the morning. Not that we’ll be catching that 😀

Thank you for this! Really helpful. Hoping to do Sarandë to Beret. Where exactly would we be picked up from? And also are you aware if they run/ don’t on sundays?

Many thanks for this summary! I’m planning my trip and it was super helpful. Any idea what time is the bus from Permet to Saranda? I’m planning one night trip to Permet and I’m struggling to find the connection :/ Thank you in advance!

Hello Anita, thanks a lot for all the data you compiled, it really helps a lot.
I do have some questions though:
1. Are all the time table work in winter? I’ll be there in early January 2020.
2. Can I buy the tickets last minute, since sometimes I won’t even stay in the city at all (I come in the morning & move on to the next city in the afternoon)?
3. I can’t find any information about public transport from Ohrid to Sarande. They offered to take me for €90 by car. What do you think?
Thanks a lot.

Does anyone know how to get from Dürres to Sarande by bus? Is it even possible?
Laura
Thank you for this! Update as of April 2021: there is NO bus that goes directly from Gjirokaster to Berat. You can go to the bus station in Gjirokaster and tell them you want to go to Berat, and you know that you have to go through Fier (a nearby city). As I’m writing this, the bus from Gjirokaster to Fier leaves at 10am — get there early to get a seat ;).
Remind the driver’s assistant when you get on the bus that you’re going to Berat, and watch the map after a couple of hours. In my experience I guess they forgot (I didn’t remind them) and they dropped me farther north than Fier once I alerted the driver — but then directed me to a bus station just across an intersection to go to Berat.
Hope this helps! Again, NO single direct bus right now Gjirokaster —> Berat.
Edward
Hi there, does anybody know where the bus from Gjirokaster to Vlore departs from exactly? I asked a few locals but they weren’t helpful. I then waited for the 8:30 bus at the main bus station this morning, but it drove past and never stopped. Most confusing bus transport system I have ever experienced . . .
Alicia
Buses from Vlora to Sarande: there are 2 buses a day as far as I know…at 6:45 am, and at 11:30 am. It costs 800 lek (or alternatively Borsh 500 lek). The bus station in Vlora is next to the Independence monument..good luck!;)
Elin
Hi, Riviera bus website says that they have cancelled all their regular routes from Tirana to Sarande due to lack of tourists/pandemic. Any other bus companies operating this route? Or Tirana-Vlore, Vlore-Sarada? Struggling to find any booking possibilities online. Many thanks!
Brigi
Faleminderit!…..Just want to add that I took the 22:00 bus from Tirana to Sarandë the other night. With Tisa Travel. Apparently they started it up again a couple weeks ago, and we can hope they continue to mud-August. (But always call and never expect anything here in Adventureland, of course:) Cheers.
Johanna
Hi all, first thanks for this awesome summary! I have the same struggle like Elin at the moment. I like to take a bus from tiranë to himarë in two weeks but can’t find a bus company which operates at the moment. Has anybody some suggestions where I could search for a bus ride?
Daniela B
> JohannaHello! There is a company called Riviera, it’s best to send them a WhatsApp as the website isn’t working!

Dear Anita,
Your blog is the best one in all Albania. Have been recommending even to staff in hotels.
I have a question regarding the time tables of buses.
On Sunday are the time tables the same or do there are less buses?

Hello,
Based on the information above, is it practical that I take the bus
from Tirana to Berat, stay at Berat for one night
Then from Berat to Gjirokaster, stay at Gjirokaster for two nights.
Then from Gjirokaster to Tirana.
Thank you guys.

Very helpful, thanks a lot! One update though – no more buses at 8/8:30 from Saranda to Vlora. Only the 11:30 one – checked today 🙂 But after about 20 minutes of trying we successfully hitchhiked.
Sophie
Thanks for this brilliant resource! I’m in Gjirokaster at the moment and the lady at my hostel says the 10:30AM direct to Berat isn’t running at the moment – it’s still listed on the sign but they’ve had lots of guests try to take it and it’s never arrived. Apparently you can take an indirect bus but you have to change at another town. I’m going to try to take it tomorrow or the day after so will let you know how I get on.
Jo
hi, I am in Gjirokaster now and I am planning the same route from Gjirokaster to Berat, could you share your experience? 🙂

Hi,
Thank you for the bus time table.
Someone suggest a route, by seems hard by bus.
Tirana – Berat (1 night) – Himare (2 N) – Gjirokaster (1 N) – Tirana.
Is it possible?
Another way, Tirana-Berat-Gjirokaster-Himare-Corfu. Is there ferry to Corfu during December? and how is the ticket price?
Many thanks.
randy
How ironic…the two bus schedules I hoped for are nada. From sarande to Vlore (which I already found out because I’m here in Vlore – Straight road to Vlore departs at 7:00 a.m. Windy coastal route departs at 11:30 a.m. Only two times in winter.) But what about getting from Vlore to Tirana? I imagine same/same as the Tirana to Vlore schedule, every half hour. You just have to hop to get a decent bus. Always the challenge in Albania.
Mrs M Rosekilly
Hi, Just wondered is it possible to go from Tirana to Valbone in one day? if so what do I need to know.
Many thanks Mel.
Karin
Hi thanks for your article. Does anyone know if there is a bus from Himare to Tirana and at what time it departs?

Multitudinous thanks.
I’m planning a trip to Albania in the fall and was somewhat perplexed about how to get around.
While I’ve not yet used your information in a real life scenario, I certainly applaud the massive amount of work you have put into compiling this data.
Again, thanks!

Hi, I am Kai Jiang from China. I planned to go to Athens from Saranta after finishing my trip to Albania in October. Is there a bus from Saranta to Athens? I saw one on this page but cannot verify on other pages. If there isn’t, do I need to go back to Tirana or Gjirokastra?
Thank you very much.

Hi, I’m planning to go from Himara to Lukove tomorrow, and was told there was a bus leaving at 7:15 from Himara…is there a way to check? I’d much rather catch the bus at 8:30 (as your schedule listed) than at 7:15.

Hello! Just took at the end of September 2022 the bus Himare to Saranda at 11am and the Himare to Tirana bus was already parked waiting to leave too. Also took the Himare to Vlore (I stopped at Gjipe beach) at 1pm. The driver said that he was coming back at Gjipe beach entrance at 4pm but I hitchhiked back to town.

Hey!
I just want to give you a quick update on the price for Tirana-Berat, it is actually 500ALL per person.

Hi everyone, here an update (end of September 2022) of prices for buses between different destinations.
Please keep in mind that these are mini vans that do not always respect their time tables, if they get full before their departure time they will just leave, so it is recommended to be there at least 30 min before the departure time.
Here the buses we took :
Tirana – Gjirokaster 1200 lek p/p. Tried to take the one at 18:30, ended up leaving at 19:45 with the one for 20:30.
Gjirokaster – Saranda 400 lek p/p at 09:00
Saranda – Ksamil 150 lek p/p at 10:30
Saranda – Himarë 700 p/p at 10:30, the one at 09:00 was just cancelled.
Himarë – Tirana 1300 p/p at 07:30
Tirana – Kukës 600 p/p, supposedly to be one every hour but we got there at 09:15 and the next was programmed to leave at 13:00, we ended up taking another mini van that was going to Kosovo.
Hope this is helpful for other travellers 🙂
Gina
Thanks for sharing this was very helpful! As an update there was no bus from Sarandë to himare at 10 but we got the one at 11:30 🙂
Kathleen
Hello, there is not a direct bus from Durres to Vlore anymore.
To get to Vlore from Durres:
From the Plepa bus station, take the Lushnje Bus or any bus to Berat and let the bus driver know you are going to Vlore. They will drop you off at Lushnje and you will need to wait at the roundabout for the bus going to Vlore.

Hi, thank you so much for your guide. I took the bus from Tirana to Saranda and the trip was quicker than expected: it took 4:30h / 4:40h. (apparently the just opened a the new road) It may be important to know if like me you dont have an internet connection when you land in Albania.
Cheers!

> AleHey 🙂
I’m planning on making this same trip next month. Two questions:
Is there a specific bus line for this route?
Are there toilets on board ?🙈
Thanks!

Hello, this has been an amazing help while travelling in Albania. I don’t know if this is a change or if this is just in the winter months but in March the bus from Saranda to Vlora is at 7am.

Hello Anita. Thank you for very helpful information.
Going to Himare on the 21 st August (the plane lands off at 12 am at Tirana airport), what would be the best solution ? Taking a bus to Vlore at 1.30 pm and then from Vlore to Himare I could not find a bus leaving around 5 pm. Is it correct? Thank you and kind regards. Marie-Hélène

Gjirokaster a Berat actualmente parte todos los días a las 8:30 de la mañana, enfrente de la gasolinera donde te deja al llegar. Saludos! Damián
Isabel
> DamiánThanks for the helpful list!
I just did these routes this week:
Tirana to Himara, 1pm (1200lek).
Himara to Saranda, 9.20am – there was no bus at 8.30 and the one I took apparently starts in Vlore around 7am (600lek); several lokals also said there’s one going at 11am.
Saranda to Lushnje with stop in Gjirokastar, 11 am (400lek), notice they will stop in the middle of nowhere and you have to get into a private car that drives you the last ~5 minutes to Gjirokastar for 100lek. This was quite scary being alone and without any warning haha.
Gjirokastar to Tirana, 2.30pm (1400lek)
Olivia
> DamiánThanks for this useful guide! Maybe you also know anything about RivieraBus which coursing across the coastline? Tripadvisor has good reviews but all of them old (from year 2020)

Thanks so much for your very informative webpage! I’m planning on catching a ferry from Bari to Durrës in June. One website said there was a bus from Durrës to Montenegro (Kotor). Leaves Durrë around 11am. Do you think this a local bus, or a private company bus? Can you suggest where to go to for up to date information on these kinds of buses? I thought of booking a ticket online but wasn’t sure if it was real or a scam!
Laura
Hello! We wanted to go from Berat to Himarë on 22nd June. Does someone know the route and timetables? Thank you! 🙂

Hi Anita,
Thanks for your article, it is diligent and comprehensive.
I am travelling from Tirana to Thessaloniki in June, I have found a bus route from Korca to Thessaloniki, so I am trying to plan getting from Tirana to Korca and your blog is some of the only evidence I can find to suggest there are routes between these places.
If you have any evidence to ease my mind that this route exists, or know where to point me, it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,

Hi Anita,
there is a new road that makes that now the buses to Elbasan or Tirana, etc., don’t have to go through Gjirokaster, as it was the case with the old one.
Thank you for your very useful work.

Update for Tirana-Himara bus route by Riviera Bus Tours company:
Couldn’t find much info online but finally got through to the company on Whatsapp using this number +355 69 799 4490
They confirmed that their Tirana-Himara route runs at 9:00, 13:00, and 18:00 from the main Tirana Bus Station. We got on the 9:00 bus so can confirm that time is running currently. Hope this helps others!

Hi Anita!
Thankyou so much for your guide, it is very useful. I am looking for a way to get from Dhermi to Tirana, arriving by 9pm. Can anyone advise whether there is a bus route that can take me from Dhermi to Tirana, or whether I would be better going to Himare and getting a bus to Tirana from there? I am travelling in 2023
Thankyou!
Natalie
Such helpful info, thanks for posting 🙂
I’m in Albania at the moment – they only had the 8am bus Saranda to Berat. 1400 LEK, 4hrs with a break halfway.

Thank you for this usefull information. I will be visiting Saranda and Ksamil first week September and didn’t feel like renting a car. Because i heard that the roads were not that reliable and people drive a little aggresive. So I thought about taking the bus to several places.
It looks like they’re reliable. Can you pay by card or just cash?
Irene

Hello Anita
We are traveling from Tirana to Saranda at the end of October 2023. Are you able to provide a street address for the Bus station in Tirana as we will be traveling from the airport to the bus station early in the morning and will not have time to ask around.
Sarah
Update on Tirana to Himare. We found the info online very contradictory and confusing so in the end went to the bus station the day before to check times and buy our tickets. You want the new regional bus terminal which is here https://maps.app.goo.gl/J1dkUQZUoAK5NQB26 you can get bus 5 from behind the National museum.
There is a kiosk for Olgena to the right of the road in. The man was very helpful. Buses currently go at 0730, 1030, and 1300. Cost was 1200 lek each.
There is an Olgena website which looks like you can buy tickets online and times are the same as he told me, so that might be an option to avoid trekking out to the bus station.
Taxis from the bus station are expensive, we paid 1500 lek to our central hotel when we arrived and just now 2000 lek to bunk’art 1 as it was so hot and didn’t want to spend another hour plus negotiating local buses!
My top tip is buy your onward ticket when you arrive somewhere, if possible, as the bus stations are generally out of town and often up/down a hill!
Sarah
> SarahAs our bus left we also saw the Riviera one heading out (which their site said didn’t run today) 🤷♀️I am guessing there are different agencies that each know about their own buses, but don’t necessarily keep web info up to date.
Gillian
Are there buses direct from Durres to Berat on a Sunday? Or do I have to go to Tirana first?

Hi Anita!
I would like to take a bus from Gjirokaster to Kalambaka, Greece.

Can you update on the schedule?
