11 Best Places to Stay in Martinborough: My Local Picks

Martinborough is a gem in the New Zealand wine country.

Known for its fantastic wine-tasting experiences and charming small-town vibe, it’s the perfect spot for a relaxing weekend or extended stay.

Whether you’re visiting for a romantic getaway, a corporate event, or a laid-back trip with friends and family, finding the right place to stay is key to fully enjoying your time in the region.

I was lucky enough to grow up in this part of New Zealand and it’s such a joy to be able to write about this place as I would love more international folks to see it for themselves and Kiwis too!

There’s an abundance of options when it comes to accommodation in Martinborough, from luxury villas to cosy holiday homes and budget-friendly stays.

In this Martinborough travel guide, I’ll take you through the top 11 places to stay, all of which are within a short drive or easy walking distance to the town’s best spots.

Parehua resort

TLDR? The best accommodation in Martinborough in my opinion is this resort. It has everything you need to have a luxurious and pleasant stay in this beautiful wine region, including breakfast, a heated swimming pool and spa!

The Best Time to Visit Martinborough

Choosing the right time to visit Martinborough can make a big difference in your experience.

The summer months (December to February) are the most popular, with warm weather perfect for outdoor activities like wine tasting, vineyard tours, and enjoying the scenic countryside. It’s during this time that Martinborough comes alive, with plenty of events such as wine festivals and food markets.

Many accommodations, especially those with BBQ areas and open plan living spaces, make the most of the sunny weather, allowing guests to dine al fresco and relax in the lush surroundings.

BUT Martinborough does book out months in advance most of the time so make sure you book your accommodation ASAP, especially if you’re coming for an event.

For those who prefer a quieter, more serene experience, visiting in the shoulder seasons of spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) is ideal.

The weather is milder, the vineyards are vibrant, and you’ll avoid the summer crowds.

🧳 MUST-HAVE: Before you head out on your trip, make sure you have travel insurance. My #1 recommendation is SafetyWing! Me and thousands of other travellers use it to stay safe on the road. Click here to check it out.

Accommodations with heated swimming pools or spa pools are particularly attractive during these cooler months, providing a cosy retreat after a day of exploring.

Winter (June to August) is the off-peak season, offering a peaceful getaway with cooler temperatures.

Many accommodations offer fireplaces and indoor comforts, making it a great time to enjoy the region’s hospitality in a more intimate setting.

One thing to note is that SOME of the wineries may close their doors for this period so if you’re wanting to do wine-tastings just check with the wineries first before you book anything and verify that they will be open during this time.

No matter when you visit, Martinborough’s charm and beauty shine through all year round!

The house actually got caught on one of our trees going past our properties so they had to cut down half our tree to move it past.
