The Dictionary Hostel – London
Last Updated on April 18, 2018
During my stay in London in December, I got to check out one of the coolest hostels in East London – The Dictionary Hostel. Only a 10-minute walk from the tube Old Station, The Dictionary Hostel offers cosy accommodation with a trendy twist.
The room
I stayed in 10 bed mixed dorm which even featured a… swing! I never thought I would stay in a hostel dorm that has a swing in it. The room was big enough, so you weren’t n each other’s faces even though it was a 10-bed dorm. The bed was super comfortable so all in all a great room! The dictionary offers a range of rooms including 4,6,8, 10,16 dorms (mixed and female) as well as double rooms.
The facilities
Although the building is small The Dictionary has great facilities including a kitchen, chill out room and a joint coffee shop, restaurant and bar. Next door there is a coffee shop as well as a restaurant where if you show your hostel card you will get 20% off your bill. I can highly recommend the eggs benedict! At night the restaurant turns into a bar with great deals on drinks and overall a lively place to party.
The hostel also offers a free breakfast which includes toast and a selection of spreads as well as a range of cereals.
The location
The Dictionary Hostel is in East London, which in my opinion, is in the best part of London. You will find some of the best nightlife in this area as well as unique vintage markets and fantastic food trucks. It’s only a 10-minute walk to Brick Lane which is famous for its abundance of curry houses. Make sure you visit brick lane on a Sunday and check out the food hall at the Upmarket. There are food stalls from around the world and some of the best international dishes I have tasted! Old Street tube station is only a 10-minute walk from here which gives you great links to other parts of London quickly.
The Price
The price of The Dictionary is very affordable too. For a 16 bed dorm, you will pay £15. If you would like a double room, then prices start at £100.
Overall, I really enjoyed my time at the Dictionary hostel and I have even recommended it as one of the best hostels in London! If you would like to book a bed, then make sure you use the links below to do so.

Sounds like a great accommodation choice especially at £15, though I’m not sure I could stand being in a 16 bed dorm. That swing looks like so much fun too!

I love the idea of a swing in the room – so unusual. Apart from that the hostel seems to be quite comfortable!

Wish I’d know about the Dictionary when I was last in London. I love the location too. The places I looked at got more expensive the closer in they were, so this is a find. Thanks!

The Dictionary Hostel sounds like such a fun spot to stay – I’ve also never heard of a hostel with a swing in the dorm room! I’d probably just hang out there all day and not get out and see the city, lol. I’ve been dying to visit London so it’s super helpful to know that you’d recommend booking a room in the East London neighborhood. It sounds right up my alley!

15 pounds for a dorm sounds totally reasonable for London. Great that they offer such good facilities at that price. And I love that you can get a discount at the coffee shop next door if you stay!

Nice looking hostel, definitely a good price for London, nice amenities. I had no idea you could get 20% off with a hostel card, I’ll need to look into that. thanks for the tips!

Certainly looks like a great place for a stay in a great location, and at an affordable price! It is so unique with that swing!

I love the trendy accommodation and quirky twists! I’ve never seen a hostel dorm with a swing – how fun! The location is obviously a big drawcard, and it looks really clean which you don’t find in a lot of hostels. Can’t beat the price either – thanks for the review 🙂

The Dictionary Hostel looks like such a cute place to stay! I love that swing in the dorm room. That’s really nice that they have so many facilities, too. A coffee shop and bar is always a plus and can’t go wrong with free breakfast!

This is a great looking hostel. I wish that the private rooms in Europe weren’t quite so high because I travel with my husband so much. However, I guess we could suck it up for a few nights, right? That rate for the dorm is wicked cheap! I love coffee shop discounts too! I could make my money back there! haha
