Holiday Accommodation Research Tips
Last Updated on November 10, 2019
Over the years, I have stayed in all kinds of accommodation. For the most part, my experience has been good. But, like everyone, I have had one or two not so great times.
It feels pretty horrible to arrive somewhere, especially late at night, only to discover that the room you have booked is not up to scratch. Often, there is nothing much you can do about it until the morning. It is far from an ideal start to your holiday. So, I thought I would put together a few tips to help you to avoid ending up in this situation.
Read the reviews before you book
If you are booking your holiday via an agency, check them out before you actually book. You can find reviews for most travel companies by clicking this link. The thing I like about this site is that the reviews tell you about the accommodation as well as the travel firm. So, you can make sure that the agent offers good support and find out if the hotel or resort you fancy booking, really does has the facilities you want.
Listen to friends and family
If you know someone who has already traveled to the place you are planning to stay talk to them about their experience. Often, they will be able to recommend a place for you to stay and tell you more about which areas of a city are well connected and nice to stay in.
Check out Google maps
It is always worth typing the address into Google maps and taking a look at both the satellite and street views. Doing this will give you an idea of what is in the immediate vicinity of the hotel or hostel you are planning to stay in. It enables you to see just how close your room is to major roads and factories. When you do this bear in mind that the images may be a few years old. So, things may have changed a bit. But, in most towns and cities you can still get a good idea of what the area is like.
Finally, take a look at the regular street map to check how close your accommodation is to the amenities you want. Make sure they are within easy reach. If you are going to be using public transport it is also worth making sure it runs early and late enough for you. This article tells you more about using Google maps to help you with your holiday accommodation research.
Check out the accommodation owner’s website
The hotel or hostel´s own website can be a surprisingly good source of information. If you have any questions you can usually find answers here. Some of the nicest accommodation can be found in hotels that have been recently been refurbished. You can usually find out when the accommodation was last decorated from their website.
Look for photos online
Recent photos will provide you with additional information. You can find them on most review websites, Google maps and by carrying out an image search.
Using these tips you should find it easy to find and book yourself good quality accommodation. If your room is comfortable, you should sleep well and have enough energy to be able to make the most of your holiday.
