If your business has been using Pinterest idea pins to boost sales and traffic, you may have realized that they are becoming more social.

In September 2020, Pinterest launched Story Pins in beta to test this new feature with a group of creators. On Instagram, you’ll see a feature similar to this called Stories.

Is the terminology familiar to you? In May 2021, Pinterest decided to rename Story Pins to Idea Pins.

Pinterest wishes for more actionable and engaging  Idea Pins from creators and businesses. Now you are thinking, “How to create idea pins on Pinterest?”.

We will show you how. You’ll be able to see how your Idea Pins are doing based on metrics like saves, comment sections, and reactions, which all impact the creators’ content delivery.

Idea Pins Vs. Pins: What’s the Difference

We’ve discussed what makes idea pins unique, but let’s compare them to regular pins.

And by “regular,” I mean pins that direct visitors to your website.

Here’s a quick rundown of pin jargon:

  • Static pins: a pin with only one image.
  • Video pins are pins that contain only one video slide.
  • Carousel pins: a pin that spans multiple pages but still includes a link to your website.
  • Product pin: a pin that displays pricing information and a link to your website. What is the difference between an idea pin and a pin?

Except for idea pins, all other types of pins are related to a link.

On the other hand, idea pins can result in more Pinterest followers and impressions due to their wider distribution across the platform.

Another important thing is that you have to be very creative in how to make an idea pin.

Why Should You Use Idea Pins?

I believe it is in our best interests to take advantage of new features whenever they become available (regardless of platform).

Idea Pins are extremely effective at increasing brand awareness and growing your audience.

When I work with clients, one of the most common questions I get is, “Why should I use Idea Pins if I can’t link back to my website?”

The answer is simple: Pinterest is more than just a visual search engine for driving traffic. It’s also a place to foster community and assist prospective buyers on their journey.

One thing to remember about Pinterest is that they constantly improve our features and typically roll them out regionally.

Some product sellers in the United States can tag their items in Idea Pins. I can’t promise it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if product tagging or even links became available internationally in the future.

What are Idea Pins for?

Idea Pins can be used for various purposes with the perfect strategy! Idea Pins, for example, can be used for:

  • Product promotion – Because Idea Pins allow you to tag products, they can be a wonderful place to advertise products! You can start promoting most of your products by linking to products on Amazon or eBay! You are not required to promote your products on Idea Pins; instead, you can promote affiliate links!
  • Driving traffic to a website – While Idea Pins are less effective in traffic than Standard Pins and Video Pins, you can still direct audiences to your website (by saying, “Click the link in my bio!”).

What to Post on Pinterest?

To begin, you must realize which content type performs the best.

Pinterest is an intriguing platform because its diverse content types can help you promote your business, advertise your products/services, and drive traffic to your website.

1. Products

Because many Pinterest users are there to shop and discover new products, sharing product photos is essential. The platform even includes a section dedicated to shopping and product pins.

2. DIYs

Take your product pins to the next level by including a finished DIY project for inspiration, as Lion Brand Yarn shows in the Pin below.

3. Recipes/Food

Everyone enjoys good food photography. This strategy works well for meal delivery services, food brands, and other businesses in the food and beverage industry.

4. Infographics

Infographics are short for informational graphics. While they can be any size, the ideal Pinterest infographic size is thin and long, with a lot of great visually represented information.

Final Idea Pin Tips

After you’ve created your business account, you must select the type of ad you want to run, and after you’ve determined your budget, you must create pins for your campaign.

Pinterest is entirely focused on visual stimulation.

  • Choose images that are distinct and appealing. Your image should be unusual, surprising, or engaging. Images with unusual perspectives attract a lot of attention. Check that the licensing agreements for any stock photos you use include provisions for social media advertising. Branded items are also acceptable as long as they do not constitute the entirety of the Pin.
  • Resize your images to be vertical rather than horizontal. Pinterest recommends 735 by 1102 pixels in height for the best Idea pins size.
  • Make sure the description text beneath the Pin contains keyword-rich phrases and is compelling enough to pique the interest of a casual Pinterest user. Good descriptions are essential for SEO inside and outside of Pinterest for search engines to find, index, and share your pins.
  • Save the image to your Pinterest board. This ensures that visitors are directed to your business’s Pinterest boards. You can create custom boards for a campaign or include advertising pins on existing boards, but the board must be managed by your company and not a group or shared board.

The best pins embrace a simple concept or idea that piques the viewer’s interest. Since too much detail can be lost, particularly on smaller mobile-device screens, simple and bold images work best.

Lists, how-to guides, and eye-catching, one-of-a-kind images are all popular.

People enjoy learning from pins, and the more your Pin can tell a story in a single glance, the more likely people will click it and read more of your website’s content.
