I Stayed at Waterscapes Resort in Kumarakom: Here’s My Honest Review

*This stay was sponsored by KTDC Hotels, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I recently stayed at the Waterscapes Resort in Kumarakom at the end of January, right in the middle of India’s buzzing wedding season.

I was travelling with my niece, and we were craving a peaceful escape away from the chaos of the North so we decided to go to Kerala, one of my favourite places on earth!

We had two nights at the resort, which is situated right on the backwaters.

A charming wooden cottage on stilts with a cozy balcony, nestled in lush greenery, offering a serene escape in nature.
A scenic resort pathway leading to wooden cottages, surrounded by lush trees and a small stream, creating a perfect nature getaway.
A peaceful lakeside walkway with a woman enjoying a relaxing stroll, surrounded by greenery and a reflective water body.

I had come here around 8 years ago when I was invited by Kerala Tourism on the Blog Express, so I knew it would be the perfect place to relax.

But did it live up to the hype in 2025?

In this review, I’ll spill all the details from my personal experience to help you decide if Waterscapes Resort is worth booking for your next trip in Kerala.

The entrance to "KTDC Water Scapes," a stunning resort with wooden walkways extending over a serene lake, surrounded by lush tropical trees.

Our stay at Waterscapes Resort was all about comfort and relaxation.

The first thing I had to do when I arrived at our lodge which was literally on the water, is test the bed and it was super comfortable.

After a long day of travelling, sinking into that bed felt like a dream.

I genuinely had some of the best nights’ sleep here, which is saying a lot when you’re travelling.

But what truly sets this place apart is its unique location.

The resort is right on the backwaters, and waking up to those serene views was something else.

It felt like we were in our own little paradise, completely disconnected from the hustle and bustle.

The atmosphere was unbelievably peaceful.

A cozy hotel room featuring a wooden bed with elegant carvings, soft white linens, and decorative pillows, complemented by classic bedside lamps and a wooden desk.
A relaxing lounge space with a mounted flat-screen TV, a wooden chair, a round table, and a cozy bench by the window, blending rustic charm with modern comfort.
A stylish hotel bathroom featuring a sleek white vessel sink, a large mirror, and wall-mounted soap dispensers, offering a blend of functionality and elegance.

It was so quiet, the only sounds we heard were the gentle ripples of the water from the backwaters and bird calls because the resort is within a bird sanctuary which was amazing.

If you’re looking to unwind and just breathe, this is the spot.

Whether we were lounging on our private balcony or wandering around the beautifully landscaped gardens, the whole place radiated calmness.

It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the moment.

In terms of comfort and tranquillity, Waterscapes Resort definitely delivered.

A picturesque view of overwater cottages surrounded by lush greenery, nestled along a calm lake, offering a tranquil escape in nature.

Hang out in the Pool

The pool at Waterscapes Resort is beautifully positioned with stunning views of the backwaters.

We spent a lot of time lounging by the pool, enjoying the peaceful vibes because it was SO hot.

However, I did notice that the pool could use a bit more maintenance. It wasn’t a huge issue, but it’s worth noting if you’re particular about pool cleanliness.

This is the perfect place to hang out and watch the sunset, truly stunning!

Houseboat Rides

One of the best things about staying right on the backwaters is the opportunity to take a houseboat ride.

It’s an unforgettable experience to cruise through the serene waters, taking in the lush landscapes and spotting local wildlife.

If you’ve never been on a houseboat before, I highly recommend trying it here. It’s the perfect way to truly soak in the beauty of Kumarakom.

You can just contact reception and they will help organize it for you and it literally comes to pick you up at the resort!

Bird Watching

Kumarakom is known for its bird sanctuary, and if you’re a nature lover, you’ll love the bird watching opportunities.

The resort is within the ground of the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, where you can spot a variety of migratory birds.

We even saw a few right from our balcony! It’s an incredible experience for anyone who enjoys wildlife.

Breakfast

One of the best parts of our stay was the breakfast.

It’s included in the room price, which is always a nice bonus.

The spread was pretty impressive, with a mix of local Kerala dishes and more familiar options like eggs and toast.

I loved starting my day with a hot cup of chai while overlooking the backwaters.

It’s a peaceful way to ease into the day.

A spacious, open-air hotel restaurant with wooden furniture, large glass windows, and a high ceiling, providing a scenic dining experience.

Lunch and Dinner

For lunch and dinner, the prices are quite reasonable, ranging from 600 to 750 rupees per person for a buffet style.

The serene and scenic surroundings are another major plus.

Being right on the backwaters, the resort offers breathtaking views that you just can’t get enough of. I don’t think I’ve stayed anywhere with that kind of unique location.
